Cozumel sits on the second largest barrier reef system on the planet, and the good part is not off the beach — it is a fifteen-minute boat ride south, inside the Parque Nacional Arrecifes de Cozumel.
We run three stops. Palancar Gardens is the postcard: coral heads the size of buses separated by white sand channels, with visibility that regularly runs past 30 meters. Colombia Shallows is calmer and busier with life — angelfish, parrotfish, moray eels tucked into ledges, and turtles more often than you would expect. Then El Cielo, a waist-deep sandbar where the water goes electric blue and starfish sit on the bottom like they were placed there.
The boat carries a guide in the water with you the entire time, not shouting from the deck. If you are nervous, say so at the dock and you get a flotation vest and someone beside you. If you are confident, you get to dive down and actually look at things. Both are fine. Nobody gets left in open water figuring it out alone.
Between stops there is fresh fruit, cold water and shade. This is the tour people book once and then rebook the next cruise.

Waist-deep, bright blue and full of starfish. Snacks and drinks are served here while you stand in the water.

Rinse off, dry out on the ride back, and you are on the dock by around 1:00 PM.
You should be comfortable in open water. Everyone gets a flotation vest, and the guide swims with the group, so nervous swimmers do fine. Complete non-swimmers should tell us before booking.
Yes. The national park wristband is included in the price, along with gear and the guide. There are no fees collected at the dock.

Yes, snorkeling has no flying restriction. That rule applies to scuba diving, where you should leave 18 to 24 hours between your last dive and takeoff.
